Here is another lost building, located on the corner of South Market and East Laurel, with the address 119 South Broad. This building was a two-story brick building with a Shell Service Station on the first floor and living quarters for the operator on the second floor. Just behind this building was a one-story brick building with space for three small businesses.

In this magnified detail of the photo below, you can see the two-story Brown Building on the left and the Claybrook Building on the right. The photo shows three buildings in this complex that is now a parking lot: the 119 address corner building with the awning; the whiter building with the oval sign marking the Shell Service Station; and the low, flat, one-story brick building where most of these offices were probably located.

One part of this building apparently faced Market. Other businesses were on the side of the building or in the one-story brick building and faced Laurel. There is a 119 S. Market address associated with this empty corner, as well as a group of 200 addresses that front East Laurel.

In the 1960 city directory, Scottsboro Salvage Store is found at 119 Market. In the 1965 city directory, Jackson Plumbing and Electric Company was in this space. In the 1967 city directory, Hi-Jackson Wholesalers is in this space. In the 1970 city directory, this space is vacant. In the 1972 city directory, Skyline TV and Appliance is in this space.

1971-73: Big C Drugs and the Shell service station

According to discussion on Facebook, the Claybrook Building was the home of Big C Drugs when it opened in 1971 before they completed the store in the current Akins Furniture shopping center and moved there in 1973. The Shell Station can be seen in the background of this First Monday shot.
